A commissioned experiment for Erste Bank: custom instruments built from cash cards, then performed as an original piece.
Young & Rubicam approached us (Mario Wienerroither, Richard Eigner / Ritornell, and myself) with a fun, challenging brief: build playable instruments out of cash cards and perform an original piece using only those instruments.
We started with hundreds of blank cards and prototyped everything from rhythmic shakers and percussive tools to melodic instruments: a pan-flute variant that could also be played percussively, a music box driven by a hole-punched card, a tuned kalimba, kazoos, and more. You can see additional instrument images on Ritornell’s Cards of Change page.
The film was shot and edited by our friends at Jenseide Productions.
