For Sarg Niemals Nie, I developed the poster, flyer and social formats for a black-comedy musical about a bankrupt funeral business that finds a spectacularly questionable route back to profit: selling the ashes of the deceased as an underground drug.
We photographed the cast at Bestattung Mödling, a funeral home just outside Vienna. I worked with the photographer on location to build the image around what the poster needed: the coffin, the three central characters and the collision of death, crime and musical comedy. The owners were generous and remarkably easy to work with, even if the setting made for a slightly surreal shoot.
The final image lets the coffin anchor the composition while the cast and bold yellow title establish the show’s dark, irreverent tone at first glance.
