Hibernation

Hibernation is one of the most vulnerable pieces in the archive because it doesn’t try to turn depression into something elegant, dramatic, or redeeming. It stays very close to the state itself: gray, pressurized, disconnected, stripped of direction and desire. The music mirrors that condition with stagnant guitar arpeggios, a slow drum pulse, a sustained bass, and a voice that often feels closer to witnessing than singing. Nothing really opens up, because the point is that nothing opens up - the song remains sealed inside its own weather. What I value about it now is exactly that refusal to embellish: it doesn’t explain the pit, it simply documents what it feels like to be there. That makes it difficult, but also honest, and maybe useful to the person who happens to find it.
